MADOI'S 3 DAYS BIRTHDAY

Boh.
From March 26 to March 29.  A long lasting 3 days birthday. As in the year of his birth, 1925, in a village lost in a rural countryside, the newly "burdens" , i.e. the children born in needy families were not registered in due time. Nothing more exciting for Madoi. A birthday lasting for at least 3 days. Sounds, laughters, music, presents and endless parties. A little child would not have been happier. And more, the best present was his artistic inactivity, justified and protected by the festive moods and by the incessant schedule of parties, a sort of limbo where he could forget his creative pathos and that dreadful Harpy hidden behind the fascinating sembiance of his Art, the same one who took him prisoner since the very first years of his life.  After some 50 years, at the end of something he arrived to think as an unbearable situation, Madoi,  judging  to have done his most and his best, at his knowledge, left us speechless with this drawing. An omen? A warning? May be. For sure, after few months, in March 1976, Madoi was no more with us.  He didnt even wait for his next long birthday. Boh.

WE SHOULD BE SERIOUS, TODAY

We should be serious, today. But we dont feel like that, not even if today is March 13, a date considered as the one linked to Madoi, the day when all the world collapsed on our heads, changing forever the perception of our future, sweeping away all our hopes and forcing us to face our limits. We took care of all this. We have survived, we have had and still have wonderful lives, we reached and exceeded dreams we wrongly considered as unreachable and we are not in the mood for crying over past and/or having any sort of regrets. Not anymore, at least. This drawing, one of the last of Madoi, has an implicit message, his classic way to drop his pearls of way of living. We dare you not to laugh looking into the yellow eyes of this stupid cat.

DAWN DREAMS

I sogni, all' alba. A Madoi succedeva spesso, anzi quasi sempre.
Dreams, at dawn. It may happen to stay awake all night long, many of them.  It may be caused by simple insomnia, by problems apparently unsolveable and placed like rocks on top of our shoulders or our stomach, or of one's own free will, just to favour the rarefied night spell till the very last moments before the first dawn lights. This happened to Madoi, almost always. He loved his "working nights" as he loved to call them, cause they gave him the sensation of absolute freedom in painting, creating, thinking, savouring the quietness or the self imposed human chaos he managed to assemble overnight like colors on a painting, which would have keep him company at his will. And in these last moments, thoughts filed, problems solved, or better, having definitely dropped out the research of their solution letting fate do its work, after having got rid of his personal ghosts and/or having downgraded what remained of the various mankind to color lumps splashed on canvas, all by himself  he finally savoured those precious quick moments between night and day, the ideal moment to drag  his dreams out of their secret place, always the same ones, just updated time by time, filing the ones already reached and complete. Though in a different way, I have been always trying to do the same.

SPRING PROJECTS

Dove? A Parma.
Spring, Summer or Autumn projects. Let's hope this year's ones. This draft is one of many for what would have been one of the most famous Madoi's works. That small sketch on the right, a tiny apse with a whirl inside, would have become a vast painting splashed on a whole apse of a Church. Where? In Parma, in what in 1966 was considered its suburbs. Take the hardest and more comfortless place, where you are sure that nobody could trace you, and you find a Madoi there. Now this place, this Church, as in the best urban legends, are attaining great fame and attention for  a project of an imminent technical and artistic restoration (due to or thanks to a recent  earthquake)and of  a detailed research of documents, memories, paintings spread around by Madoi in  that summer in 1966 when he was keeping all the neighbourhood awake night after night with the music at full blast while he was painting lying on wooden tables, crushed under the apse vault at 15 meters of height. Great, now all this will be reappraised and followed by a variety of Events, before, during and after the whole process, in Spring, Summer and/or Autumn, let's hope in 2014.

JANUARY 27, MEMORIAL DAY

Seven Years and  Seven (working) Days, dalla costituzione della nostra Fondazione.
Seven Years and Seven (working) Days, since FIWM first day. But now let's stop with our personal celebrations. Let's shake off the burden of our past, good things, bad things, our sad times or good times and let's focus on new projects - bright and sound - for our future. It is difficult, it seems impossible not to think back or trying to forget being so comfy taking solace in the very idea that past is past and therefore it cannot frighten us, as a danger you could escape or that you may just have heard of. This kind of past must not come back. We have to avoid its coming back and destroy any sort of minor possibility of its coming back. Madoi was shattered by these memories, unable to get them out of his mind. He could just paint them, hoping they could leave him in peace. But it was not so.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, FIWM

17 Gennaio 2014.
Pertanto, buon compleanno FIWM.
January 17, 2014. FIWM is seven years old. On this very day, in 2007, we established the Foundation named after Madoi, as tribute to his art, and to Isabella, as tribute to her being what she was, i.e. our parents, who actually married on January 17, same day, in 1948.  We choosed this date on purpose, cause we deem it's a lucky one. We have done a lot in these seven years, and much more is yet to come. We have registered tons of old files, we have set up an official Archive, we have taken care of even the smallest fragment of Madoi's artwork, we have created and patronized Events.  Collectors, old or new, kept us on alert submitting always new images of Madoi's artworks in their possession, some so vivid in our memories though we had no idea where to locate them, while others completely unknown and lost so far away. It has been like travelling to and from the past in our life. We got touched, mad, moved, a variety of emotions made us consider that no, we couldnt go on anymore, but we are Madoi's daugthers and our favourite meal is made of delusions. We like them and they like us, we are close friends and they make us stronger and stronger, besides subtly dangerous in our revenges.  What we really miss is the certainty of Their approval.  It is true that we dont know if  they are pleased by all our efforts, feeling gratified and proud of us.  Actually, though they loved us dearly, they never won the title of parents of the year, letting us grow up since the very beginning in complete autonomy and in the (un)careful hands of a variety of nannies, solving our small/big problems without disturbing their artistic and splendid isolation.  We will never thank them enough. So, happy birthday FIWM.

TRIBUTE TO ISABELLA

Tribute to Isabella
The week starting today is Her week. From January 13 to 17 of every single year, this Lady is the absolute star of our thoughts, though she invades our minds ceaselessly.    We consider this period a very special one as it gathers in a bunch of days/nights our strongest emotions, all our joys all our despairs. This Lady gave a magic spell to the last moments of our life with her and to the first precious soft hours of our new life without her. She made a miracle with our beings, making us invincible, untouchable, almost alien in our resilience in facing  any possible assault coming from visible and invisible enemies.  She made Madoi what he was, surrendering to his art, forgiving anything, loving him always and in spite of all. We believe, we know that she is happy in the new dimension she  has been staying in these last 8 years of life on earth, 8 blinks in the extra temporal space of her universe.
