CHRISTMAS MOOD

Christmas mood. What can we say? It's in the air, no way to deny the evidence, though we run towards the date breathless and with no time to savour the precious preliminary rituals, the best moments of this special period of the year. But in the end  we surrender to this festive mood feeling like little kids and making up for the lost time, literally speaking. It was not so for Madoi. Easy for him, cause he refused any practical commitment, limiting himself to give bunch of orders in the general direction of his subordinates. He had been waiting almost all the year round for  the month of December, changing his mind hundreds of times and finally planning all the wonders for the days before and after the Big Night, sending out invitations with the implicit Yes as a reply and everything had to shine and be full of promises, gifts, colors, perfumes, fireplaces all lit up and sort of vestales to keep them perpetually working and Snow that, fearing terrible sanctions by Madoi if absent, was always falling in tons, giving a splendid allure to this enchanting set but making any step towards the completion of the scenography imposed by Madoi extremely tiresome.  Then, at the beginning of 1976 he went away, and with him  all his playthings, his Christmas, his snow, the whole lot, and that's that. But before leaving, he left a precious gift for his last no-Christmas and he placed it in the smallest possible village in an untraceable spot in the countrysite near Cremona. A painting in fresco, a big one,  so sad and painful and devoid of any joy,  so out of theme for the imminent festivities, a sort of early Lent. You'll find here no image of it not to impress sorrow and sadness on these days which we wish you could be the best possible ones. Nevertheless this painting is there, remembering us that there might be cruel Christmas - far away or near us,  when the most awful things might happen.

BACK TO MADOILAND

Ritorno a Madoilandia, cioè Parma.
Duro.
Back to madoiland, aka Parma, where everything started. A place Madoi loved , hated, lived at more or less long intervals dense of other adventures in other places,   for sure dense of greater satisfactions. He always felt the need to come back to this homeland of his, at least for the limited time to leave something important, as unexpected present or as a challenge, like you havent heard the last of me.  Following Madoi's steps, FIWM comes back after a self imposed absence caused by stomach ache and a revolting sensation even of thinking of doing so. We do come back for an important new phase of recovering - literally speaking - of restoring, of promoting and registration of the enourmous Madoi's heritage spread all over the territory. And also we come back to assist and reward some heroes who had never ceased in believing that miracles, small or great miracles, can happen. And so, we feel back to square one and ready to start playing again, hard.

THE MAGIC SPELL OF MADOI

Solo sguardi. In silenzio. Agghiaccianti e tenerissimi allo stesso tempo.
The magic spell of Madoi. We have always been influenced by this, in the past as well as in the present time. We cannot free ourselves from this constant awe which has kept us under its dome as daughters and is holding us in check right now, calling us back to our duties (duties?).  We have never had perentorial lessons, nor written wills or orders like do this dont do that. Nothing of this kind. Just stares. Silent stares. Hair-raising and loving ones at the same time . Whatever the matter, they never were normal words, one after the other, with an immediate interpretation. Going back to those times, we could think he was just preparing us for his future absence. And even now, instead of enjoying his relaxing dimension, he takes pleasure in bursting in our dreams or nightmares, forcing us to stand up - again - and move on.

WINDS OF HOPE, BLOWING FROM SESTA

Winds of hope, from Sesta. May be not real winds, may be just  soft breezes, just  illusions of wind, deceiving ones,  leaving you like a fool under a scorching sun alone on a flat sea and the vacuum around. And you wonder how you could even think of starting  such an adventure, a so hopeless one, and you bring down the entire universe cursing the very moment in which you had this great idea. As a sailor I came upon a situation like that. In my daily life, as well. And I didnt learn nothing from these experiences, as enthusiasm is somehow the worst possible companion, swelling your sails, bringing you light as a feather over curls of water dancing pleasantly towards your goal. All this, needless to say, just in your head.  But I/we was/were content nevertheless and once the real goal was achieved, this was actually not so important, almost laughable if compared with future, more ambitious and farther goals. That's why the recent, small - though super welcome - steps towards a proper restoration - proper and dutiful not just for us, but for the consignees of  a long time ago present in the like of having a village - Sesta - full of paintings and of a church rendered unique by the immense Madoi's legacy - could be compared to those soft breezes we were speaking about, ad we are waiting, still as salt figures and feigning a sailor's patience, those famous strong and fate changing winds, even at risk of shipwrek.

CLOSING MARCH

E molto operative.
Last days of  this endless March.
We tried to be March-proof and to avoid the usual echoes that this month brings to our minds. We were not in the mood of going back to the same memories as we have been doing since 1976. We had enough of remembering and underlining every single year that March is and always will be not just a spread of 31 days and nights but a special period impregnated by the sounds, the colors, the best and the worst of Madoi. Though we could not avoid all this, in the end, i.e. resavouring the same things, we have set up a change in our approach, let's call it a new trend.  First, this unusual pic, see left or above.   Leit motif of the return of Madoi to Parma (2002), with our unconsiderate donation of an important number of Madoi's artworks (53) as legitimate heirs of Madoi's legacy, and the intense Exhibition following this event - in days like the present ones, this image represented a breaking point in Madoi's painting.  Now, we welcome a breaking point in our patience, as well in other things easily understandable, as Madoi should not need such an old and decrepit liturgy to be remembered and considered. Second, an intense re-styling of our approach, aiming to an auspicable forgiveness by Madoi, and focusing in collecting, instead of donating, tributes we deem to deserve. Third, fresh and new alliances, meaning spontaneous, enthusiast, young alliances, devoid of shows, frills, archaic rules and loose from senseless affairs. And very active ones.

MADOI STARRING MADOI

Bello. Importante. Confezionato con passione, entusiasmo, quasi amore.  madoiritrovato.it
Madoi plays himself. Virtually speaking, and showing an upset unwillingness, as in this blurry image of a draft sketched just to please a client who was rightly trying to have something solid and serious as a presentation of a future big project he was commissioning. In these very days and  with the same mood, Madoi plays himself pasted in one of his works in a short movie named after him. Nice. Important. Shot with passion, enthusiasm, even love. madoiritrovato.it
