HAPPY NEW YEAR

Clashing with this gloomy, dubious,  indecipherable  face, FIWM wishes you an happy New Year. We strongly believe that it will be so.  Back to the owner of this face, we do remember her, this Lady, very well. She was an habituée at the Tower and a frequent guest in many and  all different paintings of Madoi.  We were amazed by her chameleon-like looks - a sort of Lady Gaga of '70s - the first green and violet hair of Milan was hers - as well as by her unpredictable moods. Sunshine, clouds and storms, sunshine again in a nanosecond. As in life, as in the past years, as will probably happen in the next years, like the one starting now. So we dont know what to say. Just wishes and good luck. We, as never before, believe that this new year will be far better than what - so far - think it could be.

MERRY CHRISTMAS, FROM SECOND LIFE

FIWM, Fondazione  Isabella e Walter Madoi and MISA, Madoi International Space of Arts, are now a well established real fact in Second Life.  It could be considered a nonsense, daring the word "real" referred to a virtual context. But that's the way it is, being a fact that our Foundation and the annexed Misa we set up in this space free of the limits imposed by human possibilities are visited by thousands of people from all over the world.
Named by  the most inventive nicknames and hidden behind avatarian aspects even more fanciful,   art curators, critics, artists or simple visitors at any time of day and night are welcomed by our virtual Secretaries who take care of the registration of their access and of filing their appreciating messages in our Guest Book. And we are glad and proud, and we are quite sure that Madoi too would be head over heels in love with seeing all this. Just someone out of mind, as we actually are, as well as the immense people of Second Life, could dare to think of, to consider and then realize, devoting time and energy to a project so crazy as to reproduce all our dreams, desires, flights into the colors of our fantasy in this dimension and all this in the name of Madoi and of his being always and anyhow present in our life.
It is like having selected a Star, the most beautiful one, or an unknown and faraway Planet lost in the Galaxy, and having decided that it had to be there, in that place out of our world, in the rarefied atmosphere full of colors, out of reach of the ravens - due to altitude problems and their lack of fantasy - who keep on pestering us with their sadness and trifles and of which we really are fed up.
This dimension, a bit crazy and very dreaming, strategically located midway between our planet and the infinite space, has become for us a meeting point with Madoi, to spare him to come down here where he would find now that everything and anything has become in the meantime unbearable.

We aimed to create - and we did it - a magic place, where Madoi could feel home again, finding here the best of the best of his life, of his art, of his passions, enveloped by all his most important creations perfectly reproduced and his story truly narrated. We are trying here to show you this wonder of which we are so proud. These images are not enough to make you feel the sense of it, not having the possibility to wander in the eight thousands square meters of the whole project. Should you ever like to join us in our fit of madness, with the Avatar look you would have chosen,  you would have a great time inside this immense space and you would sense the incredible sensation of even breathing the artworks you see here.  While waiting that this could more or less happen, we are doing our best to assist you in this prequel.

FIWM, the Foundation shows the best of the collection of Madoi's artworks received at the time of its establishment, in 2007. The Biography area narrates of Madoi, of his life as a person and artist, and the Foundation, as Institution, is shown by the many Events and Exhibitions patronized and sponsored since our personal awakening - as far as Madoi's art is concerned - around 2002. A mini book store contains our production of catalogues and books.  Amazing is Madoi's Red e-Book, a FIWM  production.

MISA, Madoi International Space of Arts, was born as a natural sequel of the Foundation. In this space we have collected, fragmented and magnified the favourite projects of Madoi's life/art, the ones he loved most, the ones we could never forget.

We have selected the most intense single artworks, spreading them full size in the wide entrance Hall. Oil paintings, drawings, sculptures, the Oriental phase and the best of Madoi's production during the long period at the Tower - which was not only his atelier in his latest milanese phase, but his den and the place he loved most - as well as Sesta - where his most special projects had seen the light, the ones he nurtured and others which could not be completed.

A self portrait of Madoi towers over this space, as signature, memento of all the stories, sad or happy ones, that gave origin of these creations.

Going up on the second floor, visitors are enveloped in Madoi's projects, the fortunate ones and the others that could not see their realizations.  Visitors can enter Sesta, the small village Madoi painted in 1964, can breath the most intense moments of the Vetrata in Turin, of the Monumento alla Sofferenza, of the great Apse painted in fresco in Parma and a lot more.  Each one has its space, with wide panels filled with our comments and scripts coming from Madoi's diaries.   Even us, grown up eating art as daily dessert, having witnessed any sort of Madoi's art/life expressions, are still astonished, moved in approaching to such a pathos, to Madoi's poignant interpretation of life. We will never get used to this.

Bello, vero?

Amazing, isn't that so? Yes, it is, We don't even know how we could do it.  As if by magic, we started with this project learning step by step, mastering in technical knowledge as if we did it all our life long, till the ultimate result that we wanted to be nothing less than perfect. All the artworks are reproduced with the right scale to fill all the standard sizes of the - virtual - ground we bought. Then came the selection of the materials that, even if virtual - needed a long study and research, besides their costs, expressed in Linden - the Second Life official currency - that once exchanged in US dollars became real money. But being part of all this, as we visit it daily to meet with our guests and take them around the place, or  to organize Events or simply for the pleasure to stay inside this magic, is the best reward we could have. It opens our hearts, it makes us feel good, we sense a completion with our duties. Even though it may not reach the top of our possibility, it's near enough.

Marly Giha (a sinistra, alias Annamaria Madoi), Freeka Vella (a destra, alias Laura Madoi)

It is from here, from this crazy virtual place, infinite and magic, that we wish you that all your desires could come true in the new year, that we want to believe could be wonderful.Should you be willing to visit us here, enter waltermadoi.com, click on Foundation, then Second Life and follow the instructions.Marly Giha (left, alias Annamaria Madoi), Freeka Vella (right, alias Laura Madoi).

CHRISTMAS TIME

Christmas Time.
Ci manchi.
Christmas Time
Back to Madoi's times, a real nightmare. Not so much till 1963. Besides being just out of childhood, this first phase of our life could be considered b.s - before Sesta. Then came the a.s - after Sesta - era. For the ones who doesnt know what Sesta represented in our lives, it was, and still is, a small village in the highlands of Parma invaded by Madoi's paintings spread all over the possible  places.  Just when we were tasting the excitments of  the first glam Christmans parties of our life, with the upcoming of the a.s era nothing could be planned, envigased or dreamed of outside Sesta, in those times, as now, unhabited by some 20 human souls, average age 80.  So we had to accept forced transfers from Milan every single week end, up to Il Ventoso - an ex barn who became the favourite residence of Madoi - not yet in full gear, i.e. freezing cold and which had to be reached on foot for miles in the snow carrying tons of goods, a privilege we couldnt share with noone else.  So up and down in bulks of snow in awful outfits like baby bears, no friends (we would have had our revenge later on), while welcoming, taking care of and  feeding  hordes of guests of any kind  flowing over. Sesta, suddenly famous as Madoi's private and exclusive art gallery, attracted since the very start - 1963-1964 - hundreds of visitors from anywhere. Invited or non invited, guests were welcomed by Madoi as happy as a child of having daily suppliers of fresh supporters at his Court, granting so new reasons for new parties, in this little village, magic as a Christmas card, at the end of the civil world.
This personal nightmare started at the beginning of December, lasting well over Epiphany, thanks to a mood of never ending parties, of magic environment, of joyous well being and of roads always considered too dangerous, just in going downhill, by Madoi. The truth is that we never had Christmas so overwelming, amazing and happy like those ones. We miss you.

The Little Blue Ghost
This little Ghost, here as a draft consumed by time and by the initial Madoi's carelessness, had its /his/her revenge in its/his/her final placement in a profusion of light and colors mingled with a crowd of  other figures in the 200 square meters Vetrata of a lonely Church in Turin. At the end of '60s Madoi, after many other completed projects or artistic good intentions left behind like disturbing elements in his way of living, decided to spend a whole torrid summer in the typical hell of an over- heated art-glassworks , where torrents of colored hot glass, smokes and other amenities were like fresh air for a joyous Madoi.  In shows of good-daughters' attitude we stopped there for two-minutes visits in that hell of a place, located in what it was considered by the Milanese of those times - like us, by the way - the out-outskirt of Milan, at the very end of viale Corsica, i.e. an impassable border line, just to underline the fact that we self-considered like hostages, stuck in Milan victims of his inopportune summer artistic mood.  Back to this slight figure, a little Ghost in our minds, light blue as an ectoplasm, visibly resigned to stay where she (?) wouldnt want to stay, looking unhappy for having to be mingled with other still unknown figures, sorting out from the unpredictable Madoi's behaviour - so like us! - enraptured our minds and we have adopted her (?).  Now she is part of our life, like a little sister, witness of our joy and sorrow, remembrance and escapes in the future.

I COLORI DI MADOI

Colori.
The colors of Madoi
Actually they were the words and the sounds of Madoi.  He spoke, when  and if  he was feeling like it, or he sent out dangerous signals, when he wasnt in the mood of speaking, but his thoughts - silent or worded - were always colorful. The mood of an assemblage of this kind (view picture) - a red flow and a white in the background, plus a young lady visibly fed up of her sorroundings and of being in the nude, two faces one more painstricken than the other - didnt lead to a splendid mood.  Thanks God Madoi  could count on a canvas and on his painting, otherwise he would have been a lone soul on a street  giving  free rein to his anguish and intolerance of the moment he was living. Let's only wish that no poor chap was there, may be trying to sooth, feigning indifference to such a torrent of bad mood or worse making himself useful in a trivial show of assistance like to set up a coffee, holding his cigarette, or running in senseless errands to satisfy that bottomless pit of Madoi's desires.

The newly found Christ .
Actually he/it never got lost. He/it is always been there, as everywhere, treasure amongst treasures in the Museum of the Cathedral of Fidenza only that we didnt know, as we werent aware of his/its existence. It is more or less what happens in our daily life. We cant see something equal it doesnt exist, till an event, an accident, a fatal stroke to our little world so full of useless things, shakes you like the classic apple tree letting all your certainties fall down piece by piece along with all your precious things you take for granted and that you dont deserve. And in a while all your life is devastated along with the great - but only in your mind - little  reality you made up year after year with means and thoughts you dont like to remember.  Going back to this Madoi's painting (or drawing? we havent yet seen it), so unusual with this morbid blue and this flash of pink as flebile hope just moments later the well known tragedy, we dont know - so far - how, when and thanks to whom, this painting ended up in Fidenza, in the collection of the Museum of the Cathedral. We have to investigate.

ELEGANZA INCONSAPEVOLE

Eleganza inconsapevole. L'unica.
Unconscious elegance.
The real one. The elegance one doesnt know to possess but that comes out naturally at every single movement, at every soft sound or gesture, or merely taking its place even for few moments in the wonderful and silent picture of the life of our planet. An elegance made of nothing but showing - or letting imagine - sublime contents. Madoi was fully aware of this and he could spot it in a flower at the end of his life, in a stray cat, in a poor chap met on the street - please have a look at them, they may be stars of elegance and hidden pride, but rarely in a so called Lady. A stuctured elegance, the one that gives no light in the eyes, that cant be invented in a gesture, the one that has no tears, but is just able to be gratified in a mirrored image covered of layers and layers of expensive frills, could be sussed out by Madoi on the spot.  When called to paint the Lady in question - as he once in a while had to accept these assignments which could grant him an afterwards of painting  whole naves or miles of walls, or simply of  doing nothing for endless periods - his favourite joke was to silently disarrange her  glam ensemble painting the Lady dressed in a black  and simple robe, not considering the jewels and super ornaments she was wearing standing in front of him.  Not content of this, he used to undressed even her face, leaving just the eyes of this poor woman which was proudly posing for him for the portrait - which was already royally set in her mind above a sofa bought on purpose for her lounge room, having already fixed the date of the party for the presentation of this artwork to the creme of the city -  but in the same time giving her as a precious present, an elegance made of eyes, of  enraptured gaze, of bewilderment and pale fright.  As a result of this, Madoi's best and cruelest interpretations remained  refused - and unpaid - in his atelier.
